Warlingham & DAS are a responsible club who try and take a sensible and modernistic approach to the sport but at the same time preserving the values of "the good old days" to ensure there is something for everyone.
Currently we have an active Committee who meet monthly to discuss, consider and promote the club. We believe communication is extremely important and to this end we publish a quarterly newsletter in full colour.
To enhance our external communications, we are developing this web-site in the hope that we can attract new members as well as tell the world at large what we are up to. We don't do flying lessons!
On a more serious note, we are one of the few clubs in the area to have a Child Protection Policy in place and a Child Protection Officer who sits on the Committee. Hopefully we will never have to call upon them to advise on an unsavoury issue. In 2006 the Society were awarded Clubmark status, only one of four organisations (the other three are Hull DAA, Warrington AA and Wakefield AC) to obtain this accreditation in angling.
We are affilliated to the Angling Trust but do not currently enter a team in the National but firmly believe that they deserve support in their quest to better angling through negotiation with central government.
The Anglers Conservation Association , now Fish Legal, was formed around the same time as ourselves and we feel that their cause is crucial to keeping our rivers, lakes and canals pollution free and so we affilliate as a club. We are also affilliated to the Central Association of London and Provincial Angling Clubs as we believe they offer excellent value for money.
Our fisheries are well look after and prospective members should be aware that all able bodied members over 18 (insurance rules) must attend one working party per annum. This year and last only a handful were unable to do so and we were satisfied that they had genuine obligations elsewhere.
This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges the following Sport England definition of sports equity:
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equity of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society. The club respects the rights dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status. The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harrassment and abuse. All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity. The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.
In other words, we are open to all people to apply for membership regardless of gender, race or disability and welcome junior membership. As part of ongoing development, we plan to stage formal coaching sessions using an NFA qualified coach, subject to demand.
Sadly the days of travelling to venues by coach have long since passed but we have a varied and interesting competition calendar and include many popular commercial fisheries in our fixture list.
